One app, three exams

Prepare for the exam you actually booked

Goethe, telc and DTZ test the same four skills, but the papers are not interchangeable. Pick your provider in the app and every test, task type and timer follows.

Goethe

Goethe-Institut

A1A2B1

The internationally recognised certificate - used for visas, universities and employers worldwide. Modular at B1.

telc

telc Deutsch

A1A2B1

The standard end-of-course exam inside Germany, with a Sprachbausteine section you can drill for fast score gains.

DTZ

DTZ

A2B1

The integration-course exam, scored on the A2/B1 scale - the certificate residence and citizenship offices ask for.

All four modules

Hören, Lesen, Schreiben, Sprechen - practised properly

Your certificate is decided by your weakest module. PassDeutsch trains all four, with the timing and the task types of the real exam.

Hören (Listening)

20–40 min

Exam-speed audio with the same number of plays as the real test. Announcements, conversations, radio items - answer as you listen.

Lesen (Reading)

25–90 min

Emails, notices, adverts, official letters and articles, with multiple-choice, matching and true/false tasks - plus Sprachbausteine for telc B1.

Schreiben (Writing)

20–60 min

Write your letter, email or forum post - typed or photographed from paper - and get an examiner-style score with specific corrections.

Sprechen (Speaking)

15–16 min

Record answers to real Sprechen prompts or run a guided AI conversation, then read a scored evaluation of every part.

AI marking

Your Schreiben, marked in seconds

Writing is the module you cannot fix alone - without feedback you simply repeat your mistakes more fluently. Submit a letter, an email or a forum post and PassDeutsch scores it the way an examiner would, then tells you exactly what cost you marks.

  • Checks every content point in the prompt - the most expensive thing to miss
  • Flags register mistakes: du where Sie belongs, informal closings on formal letters
  • Corrects grammar and vocabulary, and shows the repeated patterns
  • Reads handwritten answers straight from your camera

Speaking without a partner

Practise Sprechen out loud, tonight

Sprechen is the module most learners skip, because it needs another person. PassDeutsch gives you guided five-minute conversations, exam-format recording tasks and a scored evaluation of every part - so the daily work no longer depends on finding a partner.

  • Guided conversation lessons for introductions, appointments and planning tasks
  • Recording tasks for Teil 1, 2 and 3 in your provider’s format
  • A score per part plus a total out of 100, with what a stronger answer would contain
  • Feedback on clarity - including names, numbers and spelling out loud

Everything in one app

More than a quiz app

Six things you would otherwise need a course, a tutor and three separate apps for.

Real exam timers

Every module runs on the clock the exam uses, so pacing becomes a habit instead of a shock.

Handwriting upload

Write your answer on paper and photograph it - the app reads it and marks it.

13 app languages

Study in English, Deutsch, Türkçe, বাংলা, العربية, Українська, Русский, हिन्दी, اردو, Español, Português, Română or Polski.

Streaks and reminders

A daily nudge and a streak counter - the simplest thing that actually keeps preparation going.

Cloud sync

Your history is kept safe and available when you change device, and works offline in between.

Answer review

Every question, your answer, the right answer, and why - immediately after the test.

FAQ

Questions people ask before downloading

What is PassDeutsch?

PassDeutsch is a German exam preparation app for the Goethe-Zertifikat, telc Deutsch and the DTZ at A1, A2 and B1. It gives you full-length model tests with real exam timing, AI marking for writing and speaking, vocabulary and grammar training, and analytics that show which module needs work. It is available free on iOS and Android.

Which German exams does PassDeutsch cover?

Three providers: Goethe-Institut (Goethe-Zertifikat A1, A2 and B1), telc Deutsch (A1, A2 and B1, including the Sprachbausteine section at B1) and the DTZ (Deutsch-Test für Zuwanderer), which is certified on the A2/B1 scale.

Which exam should I take - Goethe, telc or DTZ?

Take the exam the institution asking for the certificate accepts. Integration course participants take the DTZ. For visas, university applications and international recognition, the Goethe-Zertifikat travels furthest. telc is very widely used inside Germany and by employers and language schools. All three certify the same CEFR levels; only the format differs.

How does the AI feedback work?

After you submit a writing task or record a speaking answer, the app evaluates it against the criteria examiners use - task fulfilment, structure, register, grammar and vocabulary - and returns a score with specific feedback points: what you did well and exactly what cost you marks. It is instant and available at any hour.

What languages is PassDeutsch available in?

Thirteen: English, Deutsch, Türkçe, বাংলা (Bengali), العربية (Arabic), Українська (Ukrainian), Русский (Russian), हिन्दी (Hindi), اردو (Urdu), Español, Português, Română and Polski. The interface, instructions, grammar explanations and vocabulary definitions are all translated.

Is PassDeutsch free to use?

Yes. The app is free to download and all 210 full-length model tests are free - 30 for every provider and level. So are the 4,566-word vocabulary trainer, the 72 grammar lessons, the reading, writing and listening practice lessons, AI feedback on your writing and speaking, and the progress analytics. There are no adverts anywhere in the app.

What score do I need to pass?

Around 60% is the usual pass mark for Goethe and telc exams. The DTZ works differently: it is a scaled test and your certificate shows A2 or B1 for the written and the oral part. Check the current rules with your test centre when booking.

Are the model tests real exam papers?

No. Official papers are the copyright of the exam boards. PassDeutsch tests are original material built to the same specification: the same modules, part counts, task types, timings and difficulty level.
