Privacy policy

How PassDeutsch, published by ShawonPro LLC, handles your personal data - in the app and on this website.

Your right to erasure

1. Deleting your account and data

You can delete your PassDeutsch account and all associated data at any time, using either method below. No explanation is needed.

Method 1 - in the app (recommended)

  1. Open the PassDeutsch app.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Tap Delete Account.
  4. Confirm when prompted.

Method 2 - by email

If you no longer have the app installed, write to us from the email address you registered with, using the subject line “Delete My PassDeutsch Account”: contact@shawonpro.com. We process requests within 30 days and confirm by email.

What gets deleted

  • Your account profile - name, email, password, profile photo.
  • All test results, scores and progress history.
  • Vocabulary and grammar progress.
  • Writing submissions and speaking recordings.
  • Study preferences and notification settings.
  • Support correspondence linked to your account.

Things worth knowing

  • Deletion is permanent. Progress cannot be restored afterwards, so note anything you want to keep first.
  • Subscriptions are separate. Deleting your account does not cancel an active subscription - cancel that in your Apple or Google account.
  • Timing. Account data is removed from our servers within 30 days. Anonymised statistics that cannot identify you may be retained, as may records we are legally required to keep.

2. Who is responsible

ShawonPro LLC, Austin, Texas, United States, is the controller for personal data processed through the PassDeutsch app and the passdeutsch.com website. You can reach us at contact@shawonpro.com, and our full postal address is on the contact page.

3. What we collect

  • Account information - name, email address and password when you create an account, and a profile photo if you add one.
  • Learning data - test results and scores, vocabulary and grammar progress, study time, streaks, your chosen exam provider, level and interface language.
  • Submissions for evaluation - the text you write, photographs of handwritten answers you upload, and audio you record for speaking practice.
  • Device and diagnostic information - device type, operating system and app version, plus crash and error reports used to fix problems.
  • Purchase information - the subscription status reported to us by Apple or Google. We never receive or store your card details.

4. Why we process it

  • To provide the app: run tests, score answers, save progress and sync it across your devices.
  • To evaluate your writing and speaking and return feedback.
  • To send study reminders and notifications, if you have enabled them.
  • To respond to support requests.
  • To detect faults, prevent abuse and improve the app using aggregated, anonymised statistics.

Where the GDPR applies, our legal bases are the performance of a contract (providing the app you asked for), your consent (notifications, optional features) and our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and working.

5. AI evaluation of writing and speaking

When you submit a written answer or a recording for feedback, that content is transmitted to our servers and processed by an AI evaluation service in order to generate your score and feedback. Submissions are used to produce your result and to show your progress history in the app. They are not sold, and they are not used to identify you to third parties. If you would rather not have this processing take place, do not use the AI marking and speaking evaluation features - the rest of the app works without them.

6. Data storage and security

Learning progress and preferences are stored on your device, and account data is stored on secure servers with industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest. We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Sharing

We do not sell, rent or trade personal data. We share it only:

  • with service providers who host our infrastructure or process evaluations on our behalf, under contract;
  • with Apple or Google, to the extent required to process subscriptions you buy through their stores;
  • where we are legally required to, or to protect our rights, users and property;
  • with your consent.

8. Retention

We keep account data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, account data is permanently removed from our servers within 30 days, except where retention is legally required (for example tax records) or where data has been irreversibly anonymised for statistics.

9. Your rights

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate data.
  • Delete your data - directly in the app or by email.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Receive your data in a portable format.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing already carried out.

To exercise any of these, email contact@shawonpro.com. If you are in the EU or UK and believe we have handled your data improperly, you also have the right to complain to your local supervisory authority.

10. Children

PassDeutsch is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

11. This website

passdeutsch.com is a static marketing site. It does not use advertising cookies or cross-site trackers. Web fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google’s servers and Google processes your IP address for that request. Standard server logs may record requests for security and troubleshooting purposes.

12. Cookies and analytics

Strictly necessary storage. We store your cookie choice in your browser’s local storage so we do not have to ask again on every page. This is required for the site to respect your decision, holds no identifier, and is never shared.

Analytics - optional, off until you agree. We would like to use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are useful and where people get stuck. It is not loaded at all unless you accept it in the cookie banner: if you reject, or simply ignore the banner, no Google Analytics script is requested and no analytics cookies are set.

If you do accept, Google Analytics sets the following cookies:

  • _ga - distinguishes one browser from another, expires after 2 years.
  • _ga_* - keeps session state for this property, expires after 2 years.

We enable IP anonymisation and switch off Google Signals and ad personalisation, so the data is used for audience statistics only, never for advertising. The provider is Google Ireland Limited, and the legal basis is your consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR.

Changing your mind. Use the link, also in the site footer, to grant or withdraw analytics consent at any time. Withdrawing deletes the analytics cookies again. We ask afresh every six months in any case, and you can clear cookies in your browser at any time.

13. International transfers

We are based in the United States, so personal data may be processed there and in other countries where our service providers operate. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. Material changes will be announced in the app or on this page, and the “last updated” date above will change.

15. Contact

Questions about privacy: contact@shawonpro.com, or by post to the address shown on the contact page.
