German exam centres in Dresden

Dresden is well supplied for its size: a Goethe-Institut covering A1 to C2, a telc centre examining weekly, a VHS running both telc and Goethe C1, and a dedicated DTZ centre. If you need a date quickly this is one of the easier cities in eastern Germany - as long as you are not relying on the VHS, which wants five weeks’ notice.

What is different about Dresden

Weekly telc dates

inlingua examines every week, which is unusual outside the largest cities. If a permit deadline is close, that alone can decide where you book.

A Goethe-Institut for the east

Along with Berlin, Dresden is one of the few Goethe exam locations in eastern Germany. Worth the journey from Chemnitz or Halle if your certificate specifically has to say Goethe.

Split the exam families

Goethe-Zertifikat at the institute, telc at inlingua, DTZ at Euro-Schulen. Knowing which centre holds which licence saves an email round trip.

Five weeks, in person, at the VHS

The Volkshochschule requires personal registration five weeks before the exam - the longest lead time found anywhere in this project - and B1 registration is by appointment only. Start there and work backwards.

The DTZ still needs 100 course units

die Sprachwerkstatt charges €180, free with a Berechtigungsschein, but only accepts candidates who have completed at least one 100-unit module or hold an entitlement. The same rule now appears in Augsburg, Düsseldorf, Gelsenkirchen and Münster.

Saxon VHS discount applies regionally

If you have taken a course or exam at any Saxon Volkshochschule in the last 24 months, ask about the reduced DTZ fee - the discount is not limited to the city where you studied.

Have the date? Now get the score.

Booking is the easy half. Sit a full model test in the format you booked - Goethe, telc or DTZ - and let the analytics tell you which module needs the weeks between now and your date.
