German exam centres in Portugal

Portugal has two parallel routes. The Goethe-Institut examines in Lisbon and Porto across A1 to C2 plus TestDaF, and telc runs entirely through the German-Portuguese Chamber of Commerce, whose DUAL vocational centres examine in Lisbon, Porto and Portimão. That second network exists because of dual vocational training, so it is the one to look at if your German is for an apprenticeship or a job.

What is different about Portugal

telc here means the Chamber of Commerce

All three Portuguese telc centres are AHK DUAL centres run by the German-Portuguese Chamber of Commerce, set up around dual vocational training. If an employer or apprenticeship is behind your exam, start there rather than with a language school.

The Algarve has its own centre

Portimão is the only verified centre outside Lisbon and Porto. For candidates in the south that removes a full day of travel, so check its calendar before booking a trip to Lisbon.

One national Goethe calendar

Goethe-Institut Portugal publishes a single "Prüfungstermine Portugal" schedule covering Lisbon and Porto together. Read that rather than assuming each city announces separately.

ÖSD is not verified here

ÖSD publishes no register we can read, so Portuguese ÖSD coverage is unknown to us rather than absent. If your file names the Austrian diploma specifically, use ÖSD’s own finder before planning travel.

Booked a date? Now get the score.

Sitting the exam abroad usually means one shot and a long wait for the next date. Practise in the real format first - Goethe, telc or DTZ - and let the analytics show which module still needs the weeks you have left.

FAQ

Taking a German exam in Portugal

Where can I take a German exam in Portugal?

At the Goethe-Institut in Lisbon (Campo dos Mártires da Pátria 37) or Porto (Rua Nossa Senhora de Fátima 107), both covering A1 to C2 plus TestDaF; or at the AHK Portugal DUAL centres in Lisbon, Porto and Portimão, which examine telc.

Is there a telc exam centre in Portugal?

Yes, three, all run by the German-Portuguese Chamber of Commerce as DUAL vocational centres: Lisbon, Porto and Portimão. They do not publish a fee list where we could read it, so ask for the price in writing.

Can I sit a German exam in the Algarve?

Yes, at the AHK DUAL centre in Portimão, on Rua Jaime Palhinha. It is the only verified centre outside Lisbon and Porto, and it examines telc rather than Goethe.

Where can I take TestDaF in Portugal?

The Goethe-Institut lists TestDaF among its exams in Portugal, but booking runs centrally through testdaf.de rather than the institute. It is a B2 to C1 exam for university admission on six fixed dates a year.
