German exam centres in Serbia

Serbia is one of the largest sources of workers moving to Germany and Austria under the Western Balkans route, and the certificate is usually the last step before the visa appointment. The Goethe-Institut in central Belgrade examines A1 to C2 plus TestDaF and names further exam locations around the country, and the Österreich Institut runs the Austrian ÖSD diploma in the same city.

GoetheTestDaF

On the main pedestrian street in the centre. The institute keeps a separate list of exam locations in Serbia beyond Belgrade - ask for it if the capital is a long trip. Postal address: Poštanski pregradak 504.

ÖSD

ÖSD Zertifikat A1 to C2, including the ÖSD B2 for nursing and medical professions and Wirtschaftssprache Deutsch C2

The Österreich Institut names Belgrade among the cities where it runs ÖSD exams. It publishes no local street address or fee list on that page, so ask for both when you register.

We do not publish individual sitting dates: they change too often to be safe. Follow the centre link for the current calendar.

Before you book

What is different about Serbia

The certificate is usually the bottleneck

Under the Western Balkans route, the job offer often arrives before the German does. Find out the exact level and board your employer needs before you start a course, not after - it decides which of the two Belgrade centres you book.

Austria or Germany changes the answer

Austrian employers and authorities frequently name ÖSD; German ones the Goethe-Zertifikat. Both examine in Belgrade, so the choice costs you nothing in travel - but getting it wrong can cost a resubmission.

Belgrade is not necessarily your only option

The Goethe-Institut maintains a list of exam locations in Serbia beyond the capital, though it keeps it separate from its main exam page. Ask the institute before assuming you must travel to Belgrade.

Nursing files may name a specific exam

German and Austrian healthcare recognition often asks for a particular certificate rather than a general B2 - the ÖSD B2 for nursing and medical professions is one. Confirm before booking a general exam.

Booked a date? Now get the score.

Sitting the exam abroad usually means one shot and a long wait for the next date. Practise in the real format first - Goethe, telc or DTZ - and let the analytics show which module still needs the weeks you have left.

FAQ

Taking a German exam in Serbia

Where can I take a German exam in Serbia?

At the Goethe-Institut, Knez Mihailova 50 in central Belgrade, which examines A1 to C2 plus TestDaF and the Goethe-Test PRO, and at the Österreich Institut in Belgrade for ÖSD. The Goethe-Institut also lists further exam locations in Serbia.

Can I sit a German exam outside Belgrade?

Probably. Goethe-Institut Serbia refers to exam locations elsewhere in the country but keeps that list separate from its main exam page. Contact the institute for the centre nearest you rather than assuming Belgrade is the only option.

Should I take Goethe or ÖSD for the Western Balkans work route?

It depends on who is asking. Austrian employers and authorities often name ÖSD, German ones the Goethe-Zertifikat, and both are examined in Belgrade. Get the requirement in writing from the employer or the recognition authority before you pay.

Is there a telc exam centre in Serbia?

We checked telc’s own centre register and it lists none, and we could not verify one independently. Treat that as "none found" rather than "none exists": the register lags in places, so ask any school claiming to examine telc for its centre number.

Official directories

The exam boards maintain their own centre finders. They are the authoritative list.
