German exam centres in Greece

Greece has one of the densest Goethe exam networks in Europe, and unusually it reaches the islands. Athens and Thessaloniki run the full range, and exams also take place in Patras, Ioannina, Heraklion, Chania, Corfu and Rhodes. German is widely taught in Greek schools, so youth exams matter here more than in most countries.

What is different about Greece

The islands are covered

Crete has two exam locations, and Corfu and Rhodes have their own. That is unusual - most countries make island candidates fly to the capital. Check the local date before booking a trip to Athens.

Only Athens and Thessaloniki publish addresses

The other six are exam locations rather than institutes. Contact Athens or Thessaloniki for the venue and calendar rather than looking for a local office.

Youth exams matter here

German is widely taught in Greek schools, so the Fit in Deutsch exams for ages 10 to 16 are more relevant than in most countries. The adult versions are recommended from 16, and C2 from 18.

TestDaF only in the two institutes

Athens and Thessaloniki both list TestDaF for university admission. Booking runs centrally on testdaf.de, and the six regional locations do not offer it.

Booked a date? Now get the score.

Sitting the exam abroad usually means one shot and a long wait for the next date. Practise in the real format first - Goethe, telc or DTZ - and let the analytics show which module still needs the weeks you have left.

FAQ

Taking a German exam in Greece

Where can I take a German exam in Greece?

At the Goethe-Institut in Athens (Omirou 14-16) or Thessaloniki (Vas. Olgas 66), and at exam locations in Patras, Ioannina, Heraklion, Chania, Corfu and Rhodes.

Can I sit a German exam on a Greek island?

Yes. There are exam locations in Heraklion and Chania on Crete, plus Corfu and Rhodes. They publish no addresses, so contact Athens for the venue and current dates - but you should not need to fly to the mainland.

Where can I take TestDaF in Greece?

At the Goethe-Instituts in Athens and Thessaloniki. Booking runs centrally on testdaf.de rather than through the institute, and the regional exam locations do not offer it.

Is there a telc or ÖSD exam centre in Greece?

We checked telc’s own centre register and it lists none, and ÖSD publishes no register we can read. Treat that as "none found" rather than "none exists", and ask any school claiming to examine either board for its centre number.
