German exam centres in Slovakia

Slovakia borders Austria, and Vienna is closer to Bratislava than most Slovak cities are. That shapes the exam market: the Goethe-Institut examines A1 to C2 plus TestDaF in Bratislava and licenses partners elsewhere, and the Österreich Institut runs the Austrian ÖSD diploma in the same city.

Panenská 33, 814 82 Bratislava

GoetheTestDaF
Exams
Goethe-Zertifikat A1 to C2; TestDaF; Goethe-Test PRO

The institute states that its exams can also be taken at its licensees elsewhere in Slovakia. It does not list them on the exam page, so ask which is nearest if Bratislava means a long trip.

ÖSD
Exams
ÖSD Zertifikat A1 to C2, including the ÖSD B2 for nursing and medical professions and Wirtschaftssprache Deutsch C2

The Österreich Institut names Bratislava among the cities where it runs ÖSD exams. No local street address or fee list is published on that page, so ask for both when you register.

We do not publish individual sitting dates: they change too often to be safe. Follow the centre link for the current calendar.

What is different about Slovakia

Austria is the likelier destination

Vienna is under an hour from Bratislava, and many Slovak candidates are working or studying in Austria rather than Germany. If that is you, ÖSD is often the certificate named - and it is examined in the same city.

Goethe licensees cover the rest of the country

The institute says its exams can be taken at licensed partners elsewhere in Slovakia, but does not list them publicly. From Košice or Žilina, ask Bratislava for the nearest before assuming you must travel west.

Both boards in one city

Bratislava is the only Slovak city where both Goethe and ÖSD examine. If one calendar is full, the other is a tram ride away rather than another country.

telc is not verified here

telc’s own register lists no Slovak centre and we could not verify one independently. Treat that as "none found" rather than "none exists", and ask any school claiming to examine telc for its centre number.

Booked a date? Now get the score.

Sitting the exam abroad usually means one shot and a long wait for the next date. Practise in the real format first - Goethe, telc or DTZ - and let the analytics show which module still needs the weeks you have left.

FAQ

Taking a German exam in Slovakia

Where can I take a German exam in Slovakia?

At the Goethe-Institut, Panenská 33 in Bratislava, which examines A1 to C2 plus TestDaF and the Goethe-Test PRO, and at the Österreich Institut in the same city for ÖSD. The Goethe-Institut also has licensed partners elsewhere in Slovakia.

Can I sit a German exam outside Bratislava?

Probably. The Goethe-Institut states its exams can be taken at its Slovak licensees, but does not publish the list on its exam page. Contact the institute for the centre nearest you rather than assuming Bratislava is the only option.

Should I take Goethe or ÖSD in Slovakia?

It depends who is asking for it. Both are examined in Bratislava and both are widely recognised, but Austrian employers and authorities often name ÖSD, and German ones the Goethe-Zertifikat. Confirm in writing before you book, because they are not interchangeable on every file.

Is there a telc exam centre in Slovakia?

We checked telc’s own centre register and it lists none, and we could not verify one independently. Treat that as "none found" rather than "none exists": the register lags in places, so ask for a centre number if a school claims otherwise.

Official directories

The exam boards maintain their own centre finders. They are the authoritative list.
