German exam centres in Rwanda

Rwanda runs its German exams through the Goethe-Institut in Kiyovu, Kigali. It covers the full Goethe-Zertifikat ladder from A1 to C2, plus TestDaF for university admission and the Goethe-Test PRO for the workplace. Vocational and nursing recruitment to Germany has grown quickly across East Africa.

What is different about Rwanda

The street has two names

Avenue Paul VI and KN 27 Street are the same road, following Kigali’s numbered street renaming. If one does not come up on a map, try the other.

B1 and B2 are the recruitment levels

Vocational placements in Germany usually ask for B1 and nursing recognition for B2. Both run in Kigali, so the constraint is the calendar rather than the level.

One centre for the country

Kigali is the only verified exam location. Rwanda is small enough that most candidates can travel in for the day, but the registration window closes well before the exam.

Nairobi and Kampala are regional alternatives

If the Kigali calendar does not suit, Goethe-Institut Nairobi examines the same range, and Kampala is listed as an exam location by the South Africa institute. The certificate is identical wherever you sit it.

Booked a date? Now get the score.

Sitting the exam abroad usually means one shot and a long wait for the next date. Practise in the real format first - Goethe, telc or DTZ - and let the analytics show which module still needs the weeks you have left.

FAQ

Taking a German exam in Rwanda

Where can I take a German exam in Rwanda?

At the Goethe-Institut in Kigali, 13 Avenue Paul VI, also signed as KN 27 Street, in Kiyovu. It examines the full Goethe-Zertifikat range from A1 to C2, plus TestDaF and the Goethe-Test PRO.

Which level do I need for work or training in Germany?

Usually B1 for vocational routes and B2 for nursing recognition. Both run in Kigali. Confirm with the employer and the recognition authority for the German state concerned before booking.

What if the Kigali dates do not suit me?

Goethe-Institut Nairobi examines the same range, and Kampala appears as an exam location under the South Africa institute. The certificate is the same wherever you sit it.

Is there a telc or ÖSD exam centre in Rwanda?

We checked telc’s own centre register and it lists none, and ÖSD publishes no register we can read. Treat that as "none found" rather than "none exists", and ask any school claiming to examine either board for its centre number.

Official directories

The exam boards maintain their own centre finders. They are the authoritative list.
