German exam centres in Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf is the Goethe-Institut city for the Rhine-Ruhr region, which makes it the practical destination for anyone in Köln, Duisburg or Wuppertal who specifically needs a Goethe-Zertifikat. Alongside it sit four more centres covering telc from A1 to C2, the DTZ and - rare in Germany - ÖSD.

What is different about Düsseldorf

The regional Goethe centre

Köln, Duisburg, Wuppertal and Essen have no Goethe-Institut of their own. If your certificate has to say Goethe - for a mission abroad or a university - Düsseldorf is the nearest place to sit it for a large part of NRW.

External places go early

The Goethe-Institut warns that places for external candidates can be booked out several weeks before the official registration deadline. Do not treat the deadline as your planning date; treat the day registration opens as your planning date.

Four centres, four price points

GoAcademy lists €140 at A1/A2 and €180 at B1/B2; Bénédict runs from €120 at A2 to €230 at C2 with the DTZ at €180. For the same certificate that is a spread worth ten minutes of comparison.

The DTZ needs 100 course hours

Bénédict requires proof of at least 100 integration course units before it will register you for the DTZ - the same rule as Augsburg, Gelsenkirchen and Münster. StudyOn takes externals through a waiting-list pool instead.

No online booking at the VHS

telc exams at VHS Düsseldorf are booked by sending a completed form to a named member of staff. Allow for the back-and-forth, and check the cancellation deadline in the same message.

An ÖSD option, which is rare

StudyOn describes itself as one of only nine official ÖSD examination centres in Germany. If an authority accepts the Austrian ÖSD certificate and Goethe dates are full, that is a genuine alternative - but externals join a waiting-list pool five to six weeks ahead.

Card only for the citizenship test

The Einbürgerungstest is registered in person at Yorckstraße 23, costs €25, and is paid by EC or credit card - cash is not accepted. Bring valid photo ID.

Have the date? Now get the score.

Booking is the easy half. Sit a full model test in the format you booked - Goethe, telc or DTZ - and let the analytics tell you which module needs the weeks between now and your date.
