German exam centres in Ethiopia

Ethiopia runs its German exams through the Goethe-Institut in Addis Ababa, on the College of Business and Economics campus at Sedist Kilo. It covers A1 to C2, TestDaF for university admission and the Goethe-Test PRO for the workplace, with nursing and vocational recruitment driving most of the demand.

The institute sits inside a university compound rather than on a street frontage, so allow time to find the building and clear the gate on exam day. Postal address is P.O. Box 1193.

We do not publish individual sitting dates: they change too often to be safe. Follow the centre link for the current calendar.

What is different about Ethiopia

It is inside a university compound

The institute is on the College of Business and Economics site at Sedist Kilo, not on a street front. Candidates who have never been there routinely lose twenty minutes at the gate - go once before exam day if you can.

B1 and B2 carry the demand

Vocational and nursing routes to Germany ask for B1 and B2 respectively, and those levels take most of the seats. Register when the window opens rather than when your course finishes.

One centre for the country

Addis Ababa is the only verified exam location in Ethiopia. From Mekelle, Bahir Dar or Hawassa that means travel and accommodation, which belongs in the exam budget from the start.

TestDaF is booked centrally

The institute offers TestDaF, but registration runs through testdaf.de rather than the institute, on six fixed dates a year with places allocated in the order they arrive.

Booked a date? Now get the score.

Sitting the exam abroad usually means one shot and a long wait for the next date. Practise in the real format first - Goethe, telc or DTZ - and let the analytics show which module still needs the weeks you have left.

FAQ

Taking a German exam in Ethiopia

Where can I take a German exam in Ethiopia?

At the Goethe-Institut in Addis Ababa, at Sedist Kilo inside the College of Business and Economics compound. It examines the full Goethe-Zertifikat range from A1 to C2, plus TestDaF and the Goethe-Test PRO.

Which level do I need for work or training in Germany?

Usually B1 for vocational routes and B2 for nursing recognition. Both run in Addis Ababa. Confirm with the employer and the recognition authority for the German state concerned, since the requirement varies by profession.

Where can I take TestDaF in Ethiopia?

At the Goethe-Institut in Addis Ababa, but booking runs centrally on testdaf.de rather than through the institute. It is a B2 to C1 exam for university admission, held on six fixed dates a year.

Is there a telc or ÖSD exam centre in Ethiopia?

We checked telc’s own centre register and it lists no examination centre in Ethiopia, and we could not verify one independently. Treat that as “none found” rather than “none exists”: the register lags reality in places - Vietnam has two licensed telc centres that do not appear in it - and ÖSD publishes no register we can read. If you know of a centre here, send us the link to its exam page and we will check it and add it.
