German exam centres in Tanzania

Tanzania runs its German exams through the Goethe-Institut in Dar es Salaam, in Upanga. It covers the full Goethe-Zertifikat ladder from A1 to C2 plus TestDaF for university admission. Nursing and vocational recruitment to Germany has grown quickly in East Africa, and B1 and B2 are the levels most candidates need.

Postal address: P.O. Box 9541, Dar es Salaam. The institute gives the Jamatkhana mosque opposite as its landmark, which is the easier way to find it.

Before you book

What is different about Tanzania

One centre for the country

Dar es Salaam is the only verified exam location in Tanzania. From Arusha, Mwanza or Zanzibar that means a flight or a long bus, so book the date and the travel together rather than hoping for a nearer sitting.

B1 and B2 are the recruitment levels

Vocational placements in Germany usually ask for B1 and nursing recognition for B2. Both run here, so the constraint is the calendar rather than the level - register as soon as a window opens.

Nairobi is the regional alternative

If the Dar es Salaam calendar does not suit, Goethe-Institut Nairobi examines the same range and is a short flight away. The certificate is identical wherever you sit it.

Find it by the mosque

The institute is on Alykhan Road in Upanga, directly opposite the Jamatkhana mosque. It gives that landmark itself, which suggests the street number alone is not enough.

Booked a date? Now get the score.

Sitting the exam abroad usually means one shot and a long wait for the next date. Practise in the real format first - Goethe, telc or DTZ - and let the analytics show which module still needs the weeks you have left.

FAQ

Taking a German exam in Tanzania

Where can I take a German exam in Tanzania?

At the Goethe-Institut in Dar es Salaam, Alykhan Road No. 63 in Upanga, opposite the Jamatkhana mosque. It examines the full Goethe-Zertifikat range from A1 to C2 plus TestDaF.

Can I sit a German exam in Arusha or Zanzibar?

Not at any location we could verify. Dar es Salaam is the only confirmed centre. We publish a city once its centre is confirmed rather than listing one with nothing behind it.

What if the Dar es Salaam dates do not suit me?

Goethe-Institut Nairobi examines the same range and is a short flight away. The certificate is the same wherever you sit it, so compare both calendars before waiting months for a local date.

Is there a telc or ÖSD exam centre in Tanzania?

We checked telc’s own centre register and it lists none, and ÖSD publishes no register we can read. Treat that as "none found" rather than "none exists", and ask any school claiming to examine either board for its centre number.

Official directories

The exam boards maintain their own centre finders. They are the authoritative list.
