German exam centres in Cameroon

Cameroon sends more students to German universities than almost any other African country, which makes the exam step unusually consequential here. The Goethe-Institut in Yaoundé examines the full range from A1 to C2, plus TestDaF for university admission and the Goethe-Test PRO for the workplace.

What is different about Cameroon

Student files usually mean C1 or TestDaF

German universities teaching in German normally ask for TestDaF or Goethe-Zertifikat C1, and Cameroon sends a large number of applicants. Both run in Yaoundé, but they are different exams in format and scoring - read the admission letter rather than assuming.

One centre for the country

Yaoundé is the only verified exam location. From Douala, Bamenda or the north that means travel and probably a night, which belongs in the exam budget from the start.

Be careful with agents

Study-abroad agents frequently quote levels that are out of date or wrong, and the cost of sitting the wrong exam here is high. Ask the university or the German mission directly and keep their answer in writing.

TestDaF is booked centrally

The institute lists TestDaF, but registration runs through testdaf.de rather than the institute, on six fixed dates a year with places allocated in the order they arrive.

Booked a date? Now get the score.

Sitting the exam abroad usually means one shot and a long wait for the next date. Practise in the real format first - Goethe, telc or DTZ - and let the analytics show which module still needs the weeks you have left.

FAQ

Taking a German exam in Cameroon

Where can I take a German exam in Cameroon?

At the Goethe-Institut in Yaoundé, on Rue Joseph Mballa Eloumden (Rue 1.077). It examines the full Goethe-Zertifikat range from A1 to C2, plus TestDaF and the Goethe-Test PRO.

Which exam do German universities want from Cameroonian applicants?

For programmes taught in German, normally TestDaF or Goethe-Zertifikat C1. Both are available in Yaoundé. They are different exams, so check which one your admission letter names rather than treating them as interchangeable.

Can I sit a German exam in Douala?

Not at any location we could verify. Yaoundé is the only confirmed centre. We list a city once its centre is confirmed on its own website, so tell us if you know of another and we will check it.

Is there a telc or ÖSD exam centre in Cameroon?

We checked telc’s own centre register and it lists none, and ÖSD publishes no register we can read. Treat that as "none found" rather than "none exists", and ask any school claiming to examine either board for its centre number.

The exam boards maintain their own centre finders. They are the authoritative list.
