German exam centres in Senegal

Senegal runs its German exams through the Goethe-Institut in Dakar, in the Fann Résidence district. It covers the full range from A1 to C2, plus TestDaF for university admission and the Goethe-Test PRO for the workplace. German is widely taught in Senegalese secondary schools, so candidates here often arrive with more grounding than in neighbouring countries.

What is different about Senegal

German is taught in Senegalese schools

Senegal has one of the strongest school German programmes in West Africa, so many candidates already hold several years of it. That usually means starting higher than A1 - take a placement test rather than assuming the bottom of the ladder.

One centre for the country

Dakar is the only verified exam location. From Saint-Louis, Thiès or Ziguinchor that means travel and possibly a night, which belongs in the exam budget from the start.

Study files mean TestDaF or C1

German universities teaching in German normally ask for TestDaF or Goethe-Zertifikat C1. Both run through Dakar, but they are different exams in format and scoring - read the admission letter carefully.

Find it by the museum

The institute sits on an impasse off Rue Léo Frobenius next to the Musée Senghor in Fann Résidence. The museum is the reliable landmark on exam morning.

Sitting the exam abroad usually means one shot and a long wait for the next date. Practise in the real format first - Goethe, telc or DTZ - and let the analytics show which module still needs the weeks you have left.

FAQ

Taking a German exam in Senegal

Where can I take a German exam in Senegal?

At the Goethe-Institut in Dakar, 20 Rue Léo Frobenius on the impasse beside the Musée Senghor in Fann Résidence. It examines A1 to C2 plus TestDaF and the Goethe-Test PRO.

Which level should I start at if I studied German at school?

Probably not A1. German is widely taught in Senegalese secondary schools, and several years of it usually places candidates well above the entry level. Ask the institute for a placement test before you pay for an exam.

Where can I take TestDaF in Senegal?

At the Goethe-Institut in Dakar, but booking runs centrally on testdaf.de rather than through the institute. It covers B2 to C1 for university admission on six fixed dates a year.

Is there a telc or ÖSD exam centre in Senegal?

We checked telc’s own centre register and it lists none, and ÖSD publishes no register we can read. Treat that as "none found" rather than "none exists", and ask any school claiming to examine either board for its centre number.
