The Goethe-Institut examines in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre and Salvador, with further sittings in Brasília and Curitiba; TestDaF runs at three of those institutes; telc arrived through Berlitz and the German-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce; and ÖSD has been available through private schools since 2021.

Before you book

What is different about Brazil

Six Goethe cities, four institutes

São Paulo, Rio, Porto Alegre and Salvador have their own institutes. Brasília is a Goethe-Zentrum and Curitiba is a partner arrangement run out of São Paulo, so those two have shorter level lists and fewer dates - check before you count on a level being available locally.

TestDaF at three institutes

São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Porto Alegre publish their own TestDaF pages. Registration still runs centrally on testdaf.de across six fixed dates a year, and Brazilian venues fill quickly, so book in the first days of the window.

telc means the Pflege exam

The German-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce runs telc B1·B2 Pflege, the combined exam written for healthcare staff. Some German recognition authorities ask for it by name rather than accepting a general B2, so check your file before defaulting to a Goethe-Zertifikat.

ÖSD is newer and thinner here

Private schools have only been able to award the ÖSD diploma in Brazil since 2021, and the three centres we could verify publish neither fees nor a standing calendar. It is a genuine option, but it needs a phone call rather than a booking form.

Booked a date? Now get the score.

Sitting the exam abroad usually means one shot and a long wait for the next date. Practise in the real format first - Goethe, telc or DTZ - and let the analytics show which module still needs the weeks you have left.

FAQ

Taking a German exam in Brazil

Where can I take a German exam in Brazil?

The Goethe-Institut examines in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre and Salvador, with further official sittings in Brasília and Curitiba. telc runs through Berlitz and the German-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce in São Paulo, and ÖSD through private schools in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Blumenau.

Where can I take TestDaF in Brazil?

Goethe-Institut São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Porto Alegre each publish a TestDaF page. Booking runs centrally through testdaf.de on six fixed dates a year, and the portal is the only reliable list of which Brazilian venues have seats for a given date.

Is there a telc exam centre in Brazil?

Yes, both in São Paulo. Berlitz describes itself as the first official telc applicator in Brazil and sits the German exams at its Rua Haddock Lobo unit, covering A1 to C2. The AHK, the German-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, is licensed by telc GmbH and works mainly at B1, B2 and B1·B2 Pflege, with A1 and A2 on demand.

Can I take the ÖSD exam in Brazil?

Yes. Private schools have been able to award the ÖSD diploma since 2021, and the centres we could verify are Wunderwelt A in São Paulo, Baukurs in Rio de Janeiro and Alameda Haus in Blumenau. None publishes a fee or a standing calendar, so contact them directly.

Which exam do Brazilian candidates usually need?

B1 for Ausbildung and most work routes, B2 or the telc Pflege exam for nursing recognition, and TestDaF or Goethe-Zertifikat C1 for university admission. Confirm the requirement with the German institution handling your file rather than assuming - the boards are not always interchangeable.
