German exam centres in Nepal

Nepal sends a large share of its students and trainees to Germany and Austria, and its exam capacity sits almost entirely in the Kathmandu Valley. Goethe-Zentrum Kathmandu covers A1 to C1 and publishes a full fee list, which is rarer than it should be; VHS Kathmandu adds the Austrian ÖSD certificate from A1 to B2.

ÖSD Zertifikat A1, A2, B1 and B2

An ÖSD examination centre and language school running German courses since 2011, operated as a branch of VHS Bhaktapur. It does not publish a street address or a current fee - its price table is unfilled - so confirm both when you register.

We do not publish individual sitting dates: they change too often to be safe. Follow the centre link for the current calendar.

What is different about Nepal

Fees are quoted in euros, paid in rupees

Goethe-Zentrum Kathmandu publishes prices in euros but takes payment only in Nepalese rupees, converted at the rate on the day. Budget above the headline number, and ask reception for the exact figure before you go to the bank.

Own students pay less

The gap is large - A1 is €35 for the centre’s own course participants and €60 for external candidates. If you are already deciding where to take a course, the exam discount is worth putting into that calculation.

Watch social media for registration

Registration windows are announced on the centre’s Facebook and Instagram rather than a standing calendar, and A1 and A2 registration is normally in person. Plan to be in the valley, or arrange the courier route in advance.

ÖSD is the Austrian route

VHS Kathmandu examines ÖSD A1 to B2. The certificate is recognised in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, so it is a genuine second option if the Goethe dates you need are full - but check that your specific visa or university file accepts it.

Sitting the exam abroad usually means one shot and a long wait for the next date. Practise in the real format first - Goethe, telc or DTZ - and let the analytics show which module still needs the weeks you have left.

FAQ

Taking a German exam in Nepal

Where can I take a German exam in Nepal?

In the Kathmandu Valley. Goethe-Zentrum Kathmandu, in Ekantakuna, Lalitpur, examines Goethe-Zertifikat A1 to C1. VHS Kathmandu runs ÖSD from A1 to B2. We could not verify a centre outside the valley.

How much does the German exam cost in Nepal?

Goethe-Zentrum Kathmandu prices from €35 for A1 for its own students and €60 for external candidates, rising to about €125 for a full C1. Payment is only in Nepalese rupees, converted at the current rate, so ask reception for the exact figure.

Is there a telc exam centre in Nepal?

We could not verify one. telc licenses individual schools, and no Nepali centre confirmed a licence on its own website when we checked. If you have been told otherwise, ask the school to show you its telc centre number before you pay.

Can I register for the exam from outside Kathmandu?

For A1 and A2, Goethe-Zentrum Kathmandu strongly prefers you to come in person, but it accepts forms and documents sent by courier if you cannot. Registration opens in announced windows, so watch its social media rather than assuming a monthly slot.
