German exam centres in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka runs its German exams through the Goethe-Institut in Colombo 7, covering A1 to C2, TestDaF and the Goethe-Test PRO. Nursing and vocational recruitment to Germany drives most of the demand, which means B1 and B2 dates go first.

We do not publish individual sitting dates: they change too often to be safe. Follow the centre link for the current calendar.

Before you book

What is different about Sri Lanka

Register for TestDaF yourself

The institute states plainly that TestDaF registration goes through testdaf.de, not through them. People lose dates by emailing the institute and waiting for a reply that was never coming.

B1 and B2 are the recruitment levels

Nursing and vocational placements in Germany usually ask for B1, and B2 for professional recognition. Those two levels carry most of the demand in Colombo, so their dates close first.

One centre for the island

Colombo is the only verified exam location in Sri Lanka. From Jaffna or Batticaloa that is a full day, so plan the travel into the exam rather than around it.

Confirm which certificate your file needs

Recognition authorities and employers do not all accept the same board or the same variant. Get the requirement in writing before you book - especially if an agency has told you a particular certificate is required.

Booked a date? Now get the score.

Sitting the exam abroad usually means one shot and a long wait for the next date. Practise in the real format first - Goethe, telc or DTZ - and let the analytics show which module still needs the weeks you have left.

FAQ

Taking a German exam in Sri Lanka

Where can I take a German exam in Sri Lanka?

At the Goethe-Institut, 39 R.G. Senanayake Mawatha, Colombo 7. It examines the full Goethe-Zertifikat range from A1 to C2, plus TestDaF and the Goethe-Test PRO.

How do I register for TestDaF in Sri Lanka?

Directly online through the TestDaF portal at testdaf.de. The Goethe-Institut Sri Lanka states this explicitly - it does not take TestDaF registrations itself. The exam runs on six fixed dates a year at B2 to C1 level.

Which German exam do nurses from Sri Lanka need?

Usually B1 to start and B2 for professional recognition, though some employers ask for a specific nursing variant. Confirm with the recognition authority for the German state you are moving to before you choose a level.

Is there a telc or ÖSD exam centre in Sri Lanka?

We checked telc’s own centre register and it lists no examination centre in Sri Lanka, and we could not verify one independently. Treat that as “none found” rather than “none exists”: the register lags reality in places - Vietnam has two licensed telc centres that do not appear in it - and ÖSD publishes no register we can read. If you know of a centre here, send us the link to its exam page and we will check it and add it.
