The Goethe-Institut runs its Gulf region operation from the Emirates, with locations in Abu Dhabi and Dubai examining the full range from A1 to C2 plus TestDaF. Most candidates here are expatriate residents rather than emigrants, and the usual reason for booking is a German university place, a family visa or an employer transfer.

Before you book
The institute presents its exams as "Prüfungen in der Golf-Region" rather than per city. That means the date you want may be in the other emirate, so check the location on the booking page before assuming it is local.
Spouses joining a partner in Germany normally need A1, and higher certificates are accepted in its place. Confirm the requirement with the German mission handling your file - the Gulf missions handle a high volume of these.
With a large expatriate school population, the Fit in Deutsch A1 and A2 exams for ages 10 to 16 are more relevant than in most countries. The adult versions are recommended from 16, and C2 from 18.
Both locations list TestDaF, but registration runs through testdaf.de rather than the institute, on six fixed dates a year with places allocated in the order they arrive.
Sitting the exam abroad usually means one shot and a long wait for the next date. Practise in the real format first - Goethe, telc or DTZ - and let the analytics show which module still needs the weeks you have left.
