German exam centres in Spain

Spain has the widest telc network in southern Europe: sixteen licensed centres across ten cities, which reach a long way past the two Goethe-Instituts in Madrid and Barcelona. Nursing and engineering recruitment to Germany drives most of the demand, and B1 and B2 are the levels that fill first.

Before you book

What is different about Spain

telc reaches far past the two Goethe cities

Goethe examines only in Madrid and Barcelona, but telc is licensed in Seville, Málaga, Granada, Zaragoza, Burgos, Tarragona, Vitoria-Gasteiz and Sant Cugat as well. If you are outside the two big cities, that is usually the shorter journey.

Goethe Spain does not advertise TestDaF

Unlike most Goethe country sites, the Spanish exam pages do not name TestDaF. If a German university has asked for it, check the TestDaF portal for a Spanish venue rather than assuming Madrid or Barcelona runs it.

Barcelona covers Tarragona and Lleida

The institute says its Barcelona exams serve candidates from Tarragona and Lleida too. Tarragona also has its own telc centre, Hallo Idiomas, which may be the easier option.

ÖSD is not verified here

ÖSD publishes no register we can read, so its Spanish coverage is unknown to us rather than absent. If your file specifically needs the Austrian diploma, use ÖSD’s own centre finder before booking anything.

Booked a date? Now get the score.

Sitting the exam abroad usually means one shot and a long wait for the next date. Practise in the real format first - Goethe, telc or DTZ - and let the analytics show which module still needs the weeks you have left.

FAQ

Taking a German exam in Spain

Where can I take a German exam in Spain?

The Goethe-Institut examines in Madrid (C/ Zurbarán 21) and Barcelona. telc adds fourteen more centres across Madrid, Barcelona, Sant Cugat del Vallès, Seville, Málaga, Granada, Burgos, Zaragoza, Vitoria-Gasteiz and Tarragona.

Can I sit a German exam outside Madrid and Barcelona?

Yes, at telc centres in Seville, Málaga, Granada, Burgos, Zaragoza, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Tarragona and Sant Cugat del Vallès. The certificate is recognised the same way as a Goethe one - check with whoever is asking for it if you are unsure.

Where can I take TestDaF in Spain?

Goethe-Institut Spain does not name TestDaF on its exam pages, unlike most other Goethe country sites. Check the TestDaF portal at testdaf.de for a Spanish venue, and confirm before you plan around it.

Is there an ÖSD exam centre in Spain?

We could not confirm it either way. ÖSD does not publish a centre register we can read, so Spanish ÖSD coverage is unknown to us rather than absent. Use ÖSD’s own centre finder if your file needs the Austrian diploma specifically.
