German exam centres in Israel

Israel runs its German exams through the Goethe-Institut, based in the Rubinstein building on Lincoln Street in Tel Aviv with a second location in Jerusalem. It covers the full Goethe-Zertifikat range from A1 to C2, with youth versions at the lower levels, plus TestDaF for university admission. Many candidates here are pursuing German or Austrian citizenship by descent, where the language requirement varies by route.

What is different about Israel

Citizenship routes vary in what they need

German and Austrian citizenship by descent does not always carry a language requirement, and where it does the level differs by route. Check with the authority handling your file before assuming you need a certificate at all - it may save you the exam entirely.

Two cities, one published address

Tel Aviv publishes a street address; Jerusalem is described only as Hansen House. Contact the institute for the Jerusalem venue rather than relying on a map pin.

Addresses are published in Hebrew

The institute gives its Tel Aviv address in Hebrew script, and transliterations vary. Use the venue on your exam confirmation and show a driver the original.

Youth exams run to B2

Israel lists youth versions at B1 and B2 as well as the lower levels. For a school-age candidate, check which version the receiving institution actually wants.

Booked a date? Now get the score.

Sitting the exam abroad usually means one shot and a long wait for the next date. Practise in the real format first - Goethe, telc or DTZ - and let the analytics show which module still needs the weeks you have left.

FAQ

Taking a German exam in Israel

Where can I take a German exam in Israel?

At the Goethe-Institut in Tel Aviv, in Rubinstein House at 20 Lincoln Street, which examines A1 to C2 plus TestDaF. The institute also has a Jerusalem location, described as being in Hansen House.

Do I need a German exam for citizenship by descent?

Not always, and where a requirement exists the level varies by route. Check with the authority handling your file before booking anything - this is one of the few cases where the exam may not be needed at all.

What is the address of the Jerusalem centre?

The institute describes it as being in Hansen House but does not publish a full street address. Contact Tel Aviv for the exact venue and the current exam calendar.

Is there a telc or ÖSD exam centre in Israel?

We checked telc’s own centre register and it lists none, and ÖSD publishes no register we can read. Treat that as "none found" rather than "none exists" - worth checking ÖSD directly if you are pursuing Austrian citizenship.
