Europe · 12 verified centres
Italy is two markets in one. In South Tyrol, German is an official language and the certificate is often needed for a public-sector job or a bilingual qualification at home; everywhere else it is usually about study or work in Germany and Austria. The Goethe-Institut examines in Rome and Milan, telc runs through nine independent centres, and the Österreich Institut brings ÖSD to Rome.
Where to sit the exam
Each centre was checked on the exam board's own website. Dates and fees change, so confirm directly with the centre before you pay or travel.
Via Savoia 15, 00198 Roma
The Österreich Institut names Rome among the cities where it runs ÖSD exams. It publishes no Rome street address or fee list on that page, so ask for both when you register.
Via Barletta 29, 00192 Roma
Registered telc centre in Prati. A second Roman option alongside the Goethe-Institut and the Österreich Institut.
Via San Paolo 10, 20121 Milano
Via Talvera 1/a, 39100 Bolzano
One of three telc centres in Bolzano, reflecting how much German-language certification South Tyrol needs. Registered address from telc’s centre register.
Piazza Duomo 3, 39100 Bolzano
Registered telc centre on the cathedral square. Confirm levels, dates and fees directly.
Pfarrhofstrasse 4/F, 39100 Bolzano
A social cooperative registered with telc at this address. Worth asking about supported registration if cost or paperwork is the obstacle.

Registered telc centre at this address. Mainly an English school, so state clearly that you want the German exam.
Corso Vittorio Emanuele 2, 80122 Napoli
The main verified centre in the south, at Mergellina. Registered address from telc’s centre register.
Piazza Luigi Guerritore 16, 84014 Nocera Inferiore (SA)

Before you book
Bolzano alone has three telc centres, because German is an official language there and certification is often needed for a local job or a bilingual qualification rather than for emigrating. If that is your situation, check whether the provincial bilingual exam is what your employer actually wants.
The Goethe-Institut, the Österreich Institut for ÖSD and British School Prati for telc all examine in Rome. That is the only Italian city where a full calendar with one board does not mean waiting.
Naples, Nocera Inferiore and Vitulazio have verified telc centres, and Civitanova Marche covers the Adriatic. There is no Goethe exam centre south of Rome, so telc is the realistic route.
Rome and Milan both offer TestDaF, but registration runs through testdaf.de on six fixed dates a year with places allocated in the order they arrive.
Sitting the exam abroad usually means one shot and a long wait for the next date. Practise in the real format first - Goethe, telc or DTZ - and let the analytics show which module still needs the weeks you have left.
FAQ
The Goethe-Institut examines in Rome (Via Savoia 15) and Milan (Via San Paolo 10), both including TestDaF. telc runs through nine centres from Bolzano and Trento down to Naples, Nocera Inferiore and Vitulazio, and the Österreich Institut runs ÖSD in Rome.
Yes, nine. Three are in Bolzano - alpha beta piccadilly, AZB by Cooperform and Contempora - plus British Institutes Trento, British School Prati in Rome, Puntolingue in Naples, Centro Formazione Professionale C.S.P. in Nocera Inferiore, Centro Studi Fra Luigi Monaco in Vitulazio and KOMALINGUA in Civitanova Marche.
Yes, in Rome. The Österreich Institut names Rome among the cities where it runs ÖSD exams, covering A1 to C2 including the ÖSD B2 for nursing and medical professions. It publishes no local address or fee, so ask when you register.
Because German is an official language in South Tyrol. Certification there is often needed for a public-sector post or a bilingual qualification locally, not only for moving to Germany. If that is your case, check whether the province’s own bilingual exam is the one your employer requires.
The exam boards maintain their own centre finders. They are the authoritative list.
