German exam centres in New Zealand

New Zealand runs its German exams through the Goethe-Institut in Wellington, which shares a floor of the Urban Hub on Lambton Quay. It covers A1 to C2 in both youth and adult versions plus TestDaF, and it refers to further examination centres around the country without naming them publicly.

Goethe-Zertifikat A1 to C2, in youth and adult versions; TestDaF

The institute is hosted inside the Urban Hub rather than in a building of its own. It also refers to further examination centres in New Zealand but does not list them - ask Wellington if you are not in the capital.

We do not publish individual sitting dates: they change too often to be safe. Follow the centre link for the current calendar.

What is different about New Zealand

Ask about the other exam centres

The institute refers to examination centres in New Zealand beyond Wellington but does not publish the list. From Auckland or Christchurch that question is worth an email before booking a flight - the answer may remove the trip entirely.

It is inside a co-working building

The institute sits on Level 2 of the Urban Hub on Lambton Quay rather than having its own premises. Allow time to find the right floor on exam morning.

Youth and adult versions both run

New Zealand lists both versions across A1 to C2. German is taught in a number of New Zealand schools, so check which version a receiving institution wants before booking the adult one.

Australia is the regional alternative

If Wellington’s calendar does not suit, the Goethe-Instituts in Sydney and Melbourne examine the same range, and partner centres cover Adelaide, Canberra and Perth. The certificate is identical wherever you sit it.

Booked a date? Now get the score.

Sitting the exam abroad usually means one shot and a long wait for the next date. Practise in the real format first - Goethe, telc or DTZ - and let the analytics show which module still needs the weeks you have left.

FAQ

Taking a German exam in New Zealand

Where can I take a German exam in New Zealand?

At the Goethe-Institut in Wellington, on Level 2 of the Urban Hub at 318 Lambton Quay. It examines A1 to C2 in youth and adult versions plus TestDaF, and refers to further examination centres nationally.

Can I sit a German exam in Auckland or Christchurch?

Possibly. The institute refers to examination centres in New Zealand beyond Wellington but does not publish their names or addresses. Contact Wellington directly and ask which centre is nearest to you.

Where can I take TestDaF in New Zealand?

Through the Goethe-Institut in Wellington, but booking runs centrally on testdaf.de rather than the institute. It covers B2 to C1 for university admission on six fixed dates a year.

Is there a telc or ÖSD exam centre in New Zealand?

We checked telc’s own centre register and it lists none, and ÖSD publishes no register we can read. Treat that as "none found" rather than "none exists", and ask any school claiming to examine either board for its centre number.

The exam boards maintain their own centre finders. They are the authoritative list.
