German exam centres in Russia

Russia has the widest exam registration network of any country on this site: the Goethe-Institut states that you can register for exams in 25 cities, including Moscow, St Petersburg and Novosibirsk. It covers the full A1 to C2 range. Note that TestDaF is not part of that offer - the institute mentions it only as an alternative certificate that a Goethe C2 can replace.

Before you book

What is different about Russia

Twenty-five cities, three of them named

The institute says registration is possible in 25 Russian cities but names only Moscow, St Petersburg and Novosibirsk on its exam page. Ask it directly which is closest to you - the other 22 are not published anywhere we could find.

TestDaF is not offered here

Unlike most Goethe country sites, Russia does not offer TestDaF. It appears only in the FAQ, noting that certain Goethe certificates exempt you from providing TestDaF or DSH for German university admission. If your university insists on TestDaF specifically, check the TestDaF portal separately.

A Goethe C2 can replace TestDaF

The institute points out that higher Goethe certificates are accepted by German universities in place of TestDaF or DSH. That is worth checking against your admission letter before assuming you need a test that is not available locally.

Confirm the venue in writing

With no published addresses and a large registration network, the venue is whatever the institute assigns. Get it confirmed in writing rather than relying on a map or an older listing.

Booked a date? Now get the score.

Sitting the exam abroad usually means one shot and a long wait for the next date. Practise in the real format first - Goethe, telc or DTZ - and let the analytics show which module still needs the weeks you have left.

FAQ

Taking a German exam in Russia

Where can I take a German exam in Russia?

The Goethe-Institut states that exam registration is possible in 25 Russian cities, naming Moscow, St Petersburg and Novosibirsk. It does not publish the full list or the venue addresses, so contact the institute for the centre nearest you.

Can I take TestDaF in Russia?

Not through the Goethe-Institut. Its Russian pages mention TestDaF only as a certificate that a higher Goethe-Zertifikat can replace for German university admission. If your university requires TestDaF itself, check the TestDaF portal for a venue.

Does a Goethe certificate work instead of TestDaF?

For many German universities, yes. The institute notes that certain Goethe certificates exempt applicants from providing TestDaF, DSH or equivalents. Check your specific admission letter, because policies differ by university and programme.

Is there a telc or ÖSD exam centre in Russia?

telc’s own register lists none. The Österreich Institut does name Moscow among the cities where it runs ÖSD exams, but publishes no address or fee for it - contact it directly if your file requires the Austrian diploma.
